What is Kratom?

The Kratom leaf
Kratom is a leaf harvested from specific trees that are in the Rubiaceae family, which is the same family the coffee plant is found in. Kratom was first introduced to the western world in the early 19th Century by Dutch botanist Pieter William Korthals, though it’s usefulness throughout Asia has been known for centuries. Korthals performed exhaustive plant-based research in the area that is now known as SE Asia, where he found a tree that was held in high esteem by the local population. The local population called this tree Kratom, and it was the herbal remedy of choice used to cure some of the most frequent maladies of the region in those days.
How Kratom Works
Kratom contains a variety alkaloids, including mitragynine, mitraphylline, and 7-hydroxymitragynine. 7-hydroxymitragynine and mitragynine are structurally related to yohimbine and other tryptamines, and their pharmacology is quite different, acting primarily as mu-opioid receptor agonists.

Kratom is a controlled substance in Thailand, Bhutan, Australia, Finland, Denmark, Poland, Lithuania, Malaysia and Myanmar (Burma). We will not ship to these countries.
